Cleantech Projects Get $1.5 Million Boost in BC

Published

on

British Columbia’s clean technology sector is receiving a major lift with $1.5 million in funding announced through the BC Fast Pilot program. The National Research Council’s Industrial Research Assistance Program, in partnership with Innovate BC, is supporting 11 companies across the province, helping startups and small firms test and scale innovations in real-world settings.

Diverse Projects Across Multiple Sectors

The funded projects cover a variety of industries, including:

  • Wildfire management technologies
  • Energy efficiency solutions
  • Maritime safety innovations
  • Advanced manufacturing applications

By supporting pilot projects, the program bridges the gap between laboratory research and commercial application, allowing companies to demonstrate the practical value of their technologies. Many of these firms see this investment as a crucial step toward securing private capital and building sustainable business models.

Positioning BC as a Global Leader

Government officials emphasized that the initiative is more than short-term innovation. It aims to position British Columbia as a leader in the global clean economy. With climate adaptation and decarbonization increasingly urgent, these projects are expected to create local jobs and develop exportable solutions.

Industry observers note the challenge ahead is scaling pilots to full commercialization, where the true economic and environmental impacts can be realized.
