After several days of soaring temperatures across southern British Columbia, including record-setting heat in parts of the province, relief is finally arriving—with Kamloops experiencing a welcome cooldown.
Environment Canada reported that a multi-day heat wave covering southern B.C.—including Vancouver Island and the South Thompson region—reached its peak with several temperatures breaking daily records this week. In Kamloops, forecasts predicted temperatures climbing to approximately 36 °C during the heat’s peak, with nighttime lows remaining uncomfortably warm.
Now, temperatures in Kamloops have returned to near-seasonal levels. Today’s weather shows temperatures in the mid-20s Celsius, with current conditions around 23 °C (73 °F) and mostly cloudy skies. Humidex readings are now moderate, substantially lower than the oppressive highs seen just days ago.
To support public health during this heat event, the City of Kamloops activated its heat response protocol, offering cooling spaces, misting stations, water parks, and Heat Response Passes for residents, particularly those most vulnerable to heat-related risks
