Wildfires Escalate, Prompting Widespread Evacuations
On September 6, BC Wildfire Service crews intensified efforts to contain multiple raging blazes across the province, deploying night-vision helicopters and coordinating local fire departments to tackle the out-of-control Dusty Lake and Beef Creek fires. The Dusty Lake fire alone spanned approximately 53 square kilometres, while the Beef Creek wildfire was even larger, challenging suppression efforts amid critically dry forest conditions.
The Cariboo Regional District issued evacuation orders for more than 800 properties across Anahim Lake, Nimpo Lake, Charlotte Lake, and neighbouring areas. Meanwhile, an additional evacuation order and alert were issued around Coldstream following the outbreak of the Noble Canyon fire, which was rapidly spreading through forested slopes.
As of September 6, nearly 150 wildfires were active province-wide, with 53 designated as “out of control.” Fire officials warned of potential fire behaviour escalation in the afternoon due to above-average temperatures, urging residents to remain alert and heed safety directives.
