Blazers Open Season with 6-4 Win Over Spokane Chiefs

The Kamloops Blazers kicked off their 2025-26 WHL regular season at home with a 6-4 victory against the Spokane Chiefs. The night featured standout performances from J.P. Hurlbert, who notched a hat trick and drove the offense throughout. Despite Spokane’s multiple comebacks, Kamloops maintained control and sealed the win late.

First Period Action

The Chiefs struck first with Rhett Sather’s first career WHL goal. The Blazers answered back quickly, with Hurlbert scoring twice and Mathis Preston tying things at 2-2 before the buzzer.

Blazers Take Control

In the second period, Kamloops surged ahead. Isa Guram scored, followed by Hurlbert’s power-play goal, and Cooper Moore added a shorthanded strike to make it 5-2.

Chiefs Rally Late

Spokane fought back in the third, with goals from Coco Armstrong and Gavin Burcar narrowing the gap to 5-4. But with less than a minute left, Owen Cooper buried an empty-netter to lock in the Blazers’ season-opening win.

Early Momentum

Though outshot, the Blazers delivered clutch scoring and timely plays, giving them a strong start to the WHL season and momentum heading forward.
